About DBT

ABOUT DBT

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is an empirically supported and comprehensive treatment that integrates cognitive behavioral therapy with a mindfulness and acceptance approach. The treatment is tailored to help individuals and families manage emotion dysregulation more effectively with the ultimate goal of improving the individual’s and family’s quality of life. Four areas of skills are taught and addressed when working on the above issues: mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness skills.

GOALS OF DBT

behavior in response to intense emotions
  • Improve and develop positive relationships through more effective communication skills and enhanced self-respect
  • Learn problem-solving strategies when faced with difficult situations and conflict while also managing intense emotions
  • Control your attention and behavior through mindfulness skills
